CD 14 Meat for Wednesday

Team Pacheco has upgraded their website. Bunch of new features and slicker design.

Huizar blasts more spam. Entire text on MS2. He also appears to be ducking controversial votes...

Crystal Arceo jumps in the mix as well with a newly discovered website.

Most of the comments lately are all about polls, yet neither camps wants to pump out anything official. We'll wait to wade into that swamp once on of the camps does. Martini Republic notes that the unvaunted "undecided" is actually winning the battle of wannabes...

Or of course, you can continue the war here in a fresh thread...

Jose is ducking the question on charging a trash fee, why?

How come Antonio could find $50 million for the homeless and not more cops? He promised more cops.

The LA reporters should investigate why all the contractors of the bond issues to build more schools are going to Roy Romer relatives.

No, what they should really look at is the law firms that were recently selected to do business with the District and compare that to Huizar's contribution list.

"Head to head" at this point is a mind game played by suckers and sicko-fants... if there is a two way, it's months off. Just as you not that Pacheco's presumed "lead" was months ago.

After 11/08 all bets are off.

Play this game "on paper" as you're tendency is, and you lose the pulse.

Every day that we proceed into the Villaraigosa "era" becomes a louder wake-up call for people who supported him and see NOTHING whatsoever changing in L.A., except the faces of the overpaid incompentents downtown.

A runoff between his "annointed" -- months from now -- is time for dozens of days of wake up calls, and bad news for the wet one.

Hi Athena,

I like the mayor, but why not ask

Villaraigosa favorability
Yes or No

Not all this stuff (too many gray areas) not specific:

"And just FYI, Villaraigosa favorability: Very Favorable 55, Somewhat favorable 27; somewhat unfavorable 5, Very unfavorable 6. Hmmm, that's 82 to 11 favorable."

Athena [who ONLY shows up when (s)he thinks there's something to crow about in the Hui-AV-zar camp] begs the question, of course.

WHY did Huizar...

-- head of the citywide school board for two years,

-- board member for the most populous portions of the district that overlaps CD14 for 4 years,

-- supported by the popular politician who beat Pacheco two years ago,

-- not even challenged last term at LAUSD (used his leftover school board campaign money to begin campaigning illegally for CD14 position, instead),

-- lauded, honored, "local boy does good", yada, yada, yada.

WHY, did he start this race out behind Pacheco - someone who left office an eternity ago by politican standards AND after a heavy AV-machine slime job?

The same reason he'll lose this race in the end.

No substance, no new ideas, no actual sense of the issues (took months to even post "vague" cookie-cutter "issue" statements), and no real constituency of his own (just one borrowed from the mayor).

No doubt that the people what disguised Villaraigosa as a "visionary" can prop any paper-thin pretty face up for the electorate for awhile. It's once they have to start DEALING with the issues that everything goes to hell for the people in this district.

Huizar supporters keep telling us that Pacheco needs to stop dwelling on the "last race" and "bashing" AV.

So why bring up AV's favorables, here?

Is he running as CM for CD14 again, or not?

I'm active in CD14 affairs and that SURE what I want, a councilmember who's a lackey to the mayor "fighting" (ha, ha, ha) for this district's fair share - for a change.

That fight would already be FIXED, just like it has been for the past two years.

Admit is, Dead Mayors, you just post these CD14 things when your hit numbers start to lag again.

Hmmm

Name me a school board member that polls better than their local councilman, or even a councilman in office 4 years ago and i'll show you LIE. None of the current school board members poll better -- because they are part-time electeds and their profile is not that high in the LA media.

Without Lloyd there for Pacheco -- there's no hope, no chance, and it's just a lot of fun to watch a little dejavu for the Pacheco cronies who probably like supporting losers.

You're standing up a straw man (like your candidate).

No one said "school board member" -- just LAUSD.

To the voters of CD14, Huizar should be and will be portrayed as the captain (for the last 2 years) of the city's biggest, FASTEST sinking ship (who's now running as fast as HE can so as not to go DOWN with it).

LAUSD board members, for the most part, CRAVE the anonymity because they REALLY don't want to be blamed for that monster, and for weeks now Huizar has been trying to "pretend" he's been the fixer at the school district, (a well-meaning little boy with his finger in one small hole of a dike holding back LAUSD's failures, but crumbling faster than the New Orleans levees).

There isn't a parent in the district who wouldn't line up or even pay a couples bucks to get (and APPLY) a bumper sticker that reads: "LAUSD SUCKS!"

(Hey, there's a fundraising scheme for you, Pacheco!)

Ba da bing!

In six years of public life I have never seen Nick Pacheco DUCK a tough question.

He hits them head on, explains what can happen, might happen, and what might be done to deal with issues. I'm sure sometimes people with him wish he would duck some issues, but I don't think he has it in him. He's TOO honest, won't promise things he can't deliver, tells people what might hold up delivery, and explains FAR more than most people can digest. Many just WANT a lame promise so they can feel better, and then settle for non-delivery.

Up against a massive liar like Villaraigosa two years ago, it was defintely a handicap for him. Now Huizar is taking cues from AV's same spin team, but many people can see that AV promised more and delivered less.

Bring back the BOY SCOUT and let the SCHOOL BOY finish his lessons.

Drive through CD14 some time.... the DISTRICT lost more than any candidate did. Serious problems everywhere, and $2 million in discretionary funds collected under Villar are locked away, inaccessible to one of the poorest districts in the city.

The haves = candidates and their rich contributors.

The have nots = the trusting remainder.

Okay, just a non-rebuttal rebuttal then.

(AV supporters are SO good at inventing rationalizations... I hear that's what his middle initial stands for).

October 26, 2005 3:31 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Spekaing of rebuttals, that "hording 1-2 million in discretionary funds" claim -- ignoring district requests for it and needs -- has been posted here a bunch of time and never refuted.

I hear Pacheco even posted the accounts balance on it publicly, as provided by Laura Chick showing some of it's been gathering dust since 2003.

Now CD14 staff "caretakers" say they "don't have access to it any more."

What the hell does "don't have access" mean when some of those funds have been in the accounts and on the books since the last six months of Pacheco's term? Who DOES have access (or maybe who IS using it?)

October 26, 2005 3:35 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

AV took Huizar to the vault room and said "someday my boy, ALL this discretionary funding will be yours."

No one expected AV to do anything as CM, so he was never faulted for sitting on it -- people KNEW he was just stepping over the district to bust Hahn's (and Pacheco's) balls.

But Huizar, who has no clue what the district needs or how to get it done, will need every penny -- if AV gets to step ON the district and get Jose elected -- to pay off AV supporters who back him and keep them happy until the full term contest starts.

(1) NO MORE FRAMES!

(2) Get rid of annoying blinking text circa 1996.

(3) More photos of you and your friends reading the bible in the walkway/at a restaurant/wherever.

I've received three mailings from Pacheco in the last 2 weeks or so... one about trash fees, and one about another district specific issue developing, and one more generic one about completing projects. (In FACT, Parke Skelton even told people he got one in the mail... go ask him).

I don't Pacheco is JUST mailing to me. (But, the stuff from Huizar, I tossed out accidentally, thinking it was old AV mail stuck in the back of the mailbox. I think they even posed him in the same classroom pointing a kids who just wanted to ask to go the the bathroom).

Did he also wear Antonio's white shirt -- because it looked familiar, too.

Maybe Pacheco just knows who you are -- and that you're a lost cause; not worth spending 16.4 cents, bulk rate postage on.

All anyone has to do is go to a debate and hear for themselves the difference in Pacheco's experience, maturity, vision and knowledge of the politics of city council. Huizar danced around the issues cause he didn't know the answer. A man asked, "Roosevelt elementary school states on the financial report it will cost $20 million. On the report there is a box that states "Other" marked with $12 million next to it. "Mr. Huizar what is that $12 mil other for? Huizar, "I don't know but if you would like I can get one of my staff to sit with you and find out."
