Why Are We Losing the War Against Gangs

From 8 to 9 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2006 the L. A. Cable Channel 36 will feature a two-part Full Disclosure program exposing why the war against gangs is failing. This program will air city wide throughout Los Angeles and other cable access channels throughout California and the worldwide Internet. Featuring L.A. County Sheriff Sgt. Richard Valdemar (ret) a 33 year veteran and internationally recognized gang expert. A FREE eight minute preview of the programs can be found here at the URL:

http://www.fulldisclosure.net/flash/468-469.php on demand, 24/7, as a public service of the The Full Disclosure Network.

Summary of Part 1 & 2 of the Valdemar interview:

  • Failure of law enforcement to conduct gang/terrorist intelligence due to fear of civil rights lawsuits
  • Gang members working with terrorists have been documented in Southern California
  • Young people have positive vs negative reactions to police tactics
  • Sheriff's OSS gang program successfully dismantled gangs, elected officials destroyed the program.
  • Sheriffs Department now sending in teams to put out gang fires
  • Criminal illegal aliens are exporting gangs to other countries, smuggling drugs and humans
  • Criminal illegal aliens are producing false documents enabling re-entry to the U.S.
  • Gangs are joining the military, gang graffiti has been found on buildings in Iraq
  • Military is teaching gang members new skills that are used on the streets of the U.S.
  • Local law enforcement no longer has undercover operations of subversive groups
  • Three Strikes law does not apply to criminal illegal aliens.
  • Gang graffiti in airline cargo holds is an invitation for terrorist bombs
  • Need to return to monitoring subversive groups and gang dismantling programs.
The entire four-part interview with the former Sgt. Richard Valdemar will be featured on 43 cable systems with previews on the Internet at www.fulldisclosure.net. The Full Disclosure Network™ is known as “the news behind the news” and is an independent, educational, public affairs cable program hosted by Leslie Dutton. In 2002 the FDN program was presented with a public affairs Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for their series entitled “L.A.’s War Against Terrorism”. Channels and airtimes can be found on the website.

FYI: Matt "Guitar" Dowd who plays exactly like David Gilmoure of Pink Floyd, and who you have seen on TV 35 "Public Comment" is running for Venice Neigborhood Council tomorrow (Sunday) at Venice High School.

I don't think this is a big enough election for the Mayor to send over one of his "voter caravans", so your vote may actually count.

So show up to Vote for Neighborhood Council if you live in Bill Rosendahl's district.

There are seven Councilmembers who will be elected out of around fifteen.

CITIZENS ALERT!!! IF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN THE DISTRICT HAVE THEM VOTE A-G-A-I-N-S-T LINDA LUCHS, who is also running. She was put in place by Mayor Viagraosa himself...so pleeeeeeease vote AGAINST her...I'm begging you!

To find out what Matt Dowd has to say on the issues...got to www.YouTube.com and do a search for "Matt Dowd."

If nothing else, he'll become your favorite L.A. guitarist, cause he has those clips up, as well!

Yeah, yeah!

This is nothing new in El Sereno. Same corruption, different names. Remember when Richard Alatorre's wife conned the El Sereno Youth Development Corporation for hundreds of thousands of dollars through her Eventfully Yours catering business. It looks as if Alvin Parra has learned well from the corrupt politicians that preceded him. By the way, Alatorre's sister worked for Antonio Villaraigosa when he was a councilman. The same sister that served as Alatorre's treasurer and was responsible for the largest ehtics fine at the time - that is before Padilla took that distinction.

And whats with charging to get into a carnival that is being held on a public street! This isn't a community of limtless resources. San Gabriel and Alhambra - two very more affluent communities than El Sereno, don't charge admission for their fairs! This fair was held in front of a Food4Less - shouldn't that be a clue as to the economic standing of this community.

But just like the backroom, cigar chomping Mexican politicians of the past - these greedy bastards are only looking out for themselves. Where is Laura Chick on all this?

Sounds like you hit the proverbial nail on the head. If this isn't a quid pro quo -- political advertising in exchange for a fee waiver -- then why in the world would anyone put, as the first line of a promotional flyer: "Councilmember of the 14th District Jose Huizar"?

Look at the flyers in the newspaper today for Macy's, Pep Boys, whatever. None of them will start with, or ever mention, the name of politicians for the districts in which the stores are located.

Nice catch, Zuma Dogg!

And all of those initiatives that have been lying around for years? That's been going on forever. That is how the councilman look good to their constituents who never follow through on the promises.

We need serious change.

Reacting to media leaks, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday referred to the mayoral press pool as "trolls."

The comment, made during a news conference in South Los Angeles Monday afternoon, took reporters in attendance by surprise, some not quite sure how to take it.

"I'd rather be a gnome," quipped one City Hall scribe.

Villaraigosa's pronouncement came as he formally announced his nominees for the Community Redevelopment Agency Board of Commissioners.

The Los Angeles Times had reported the mayor's selections on Sept. 2.

Villaraigosa said he will make sure his upcoming nominees for the planning commission are not prematurely leaked to the press.

"Pat (McGreevy of The Times) and the other trolls in the room here are not going to get a preview on that one," Villaraigosa said. "They love, you know, ruining your story, getting it out."

Mayoral aides characterized the comment as "good-natured teasing."

"The mayor was simply teasing the press corps for constantly looking for stories and trying to scoop each other," spokeswoman Janelle Erickson said.

But a media expert from UCLA -- Villaraigosa's alma mater -- said the mayor may be "feeling the heat" from the local press.

Such teasing could backfire on the mayor, who took office July 1, according to Thomas Plate, a speech and communications professor who used to work in the editorial department at the Los Angeles Times.

"I can predict that if the mayor has lost his humor with the news media so early in his administration, it's going to be a very long term," Plate said. "He has to learn that the media is doing its job, and not let it get under his skin. The best way to deal with the march of the trolls is with a joke, but he is obviously feeling the heat."

In turn, Plate said reporters covering the mayor and City Hall politics should take Villaraigosa's comment with a grain of salt.

"I think, as a veteran troll myself ... that if the media is going to be in the kitchen, it's got to take the heat and not overreact," Plate said. "Just take it with a chuckle."

Huh? We need to talk about that? Why do we need to talk about that? What possible relevance does the skin color of the first settlers in Los Angeles, without any connection to Villaraigosa, have to black voters in the 2005 election for city mayor? It has none whatsoever. It's nothing but a naked appeal to racial solidarity. But since Villaraigosa can't say "vote for me, we're the same race" he has to come up with this nonsensical connection, "vote for me, people with brown skin founded Los Angeles!"

It is all political theater, and AV is in the grandstand. You think the mayor is going to feel worried about your juvenile taunt?

And Weiss campaigned saying that the airport should expand and that AV was too liberal for his tastes. Funny what a difference a couple of years makes.

And BP is pro-business? Gimme a break. I bet he'd vote for the plan if it hired scabs only.

I say if the NFL won't take the Coliseum, we build a new airport at Expo Park. More convenient for Congresswomen and City Hall insiders.

As one who voted for succession, my worst fears are coming true. City "fathers" lobby for increased taxes, bond issues and spending other monies that we don't have while doing nothing to cut unnecesessary (eyes of the beholder, I guess) spending. We can't afford police but can afford $11 billion for a goofy airport plan? 80 years to fix a broken sidewalk?
Blowhard Bratton's publicity hack getting $150k per year and a city gun(?) to pretend to be a cop? The mayor is looking more like Alfred E Neuman every day. Gimmie a break!

Hey ghost, you hit it on the nose - Gloria has suffered some trauma and she can't get over it. First her kid's father or fathers left her. Then she gets her ass beat on by one of the Rodriguez Brothers - either Antonio, who used to be Antonio Villaraigosa's mentor or his little brothers Javier or Cokie. Cokie used to be Antonio Villaraigosa's brother in law, that is until Antonio's little sister left him after she got her ass beat. Notice a pattern here? Then Gloria goes for the very married Miguel Contreras and rides his ass all the way to the Senate. Then Miguel starts screwing Gloria's chief of staff Ruth Castro, before Miguel beat on her ass. Still the same pattern.

How Not To Handle a Mildly Embarassing Story: The Mayor’s Rock Star Memo
Posted by johnstodderinexile on July 26th, 2006

I would love it, frankly, if I had a staff of people who showed up everywhere I was going 30 minutes in advance to make sure I would be served lean chicken or fish, no starches or sweets, and green tea (hold the four packages of Splenda, thanks), who made sure my breath smelled minty, secured me a parking spot and a place to sit and always, always remained in my line of sight in case I wanted to shoot them a meaningful look, a look that says, “I need you. I want you. Bring a Sharpie.”

Apparently Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa feels just the same way I do. So much so that he had someone memorialize his wish list in a memo. Good idea. Since it’s so easily available on the web, I just might copy it for my own use. In case I get a staff, so I’ll be all set.

What I wouldn’t do, if I were the mayor, is tell my staff to deny what anyone can see with their own two eyes.

L.A. Gang Members Are Fewer but Resilient..Crimes are down but authorities say prison and injunctions are not deterring the groups.
Times Staff Writers...Sept. 16th

In 2000, federal authorities indicted two dozen leaders of Los Angeles' notorious 18th Street gang in a move prosecutors said would "cut off the head" of the group.....So this week, when federal prosecutors indicted 18 gang leaders for allegedly running a sophisticated drug operation west of downtown, the grand pronouncements about the gang's impending death were conspicuously absent......"It is going to severely disorientate and disrupt this criminal organization for two or three years," said Riordan, who has spent a decade prosecuting the gang. "It is like 'The Sopranos' when [mob boss] Tony got shot and was out of action. They found out in reality that it's a lot harder to be the boss."...Officials estimate there are now 39,000 gang members in the county, compared with 57,000 five years ago. The 18th Street's membership is about 2,899, according to recent estimates...Still, the earlier belief by law enforcement that aggressive sweeps targeting gang leaders could cause the organization to crumble have given way to a more sober view.

On the ground, LAPD officials say that sending gang leaders to prison results in younger members rising in the organization.

But police said they've also had trouble removing the strong roots that some gangs have in certain neighborhoods and families. Often, gang members get out of jail and return to the gang.....
