A Reader Writes: You Don't Need a Bullhorn to be Heard by God

Divine Savior Church in Cypress Park put up an amplied sound system. Now, they blast a tape recording of their organ music, bells and chimes from 4 bullhorns on top of the church. They blast it 7-10 times a day, 7:55 am, 8:00, 9:00, 12:00 pm, 3:00 and 6:00 and sometimes in between for funerals and weddings. It is very loud and annoying. One of the tape recordings sounds like some one slamming their hands on an off key piano.

Father Marco refuses to lower the volume or the amount of times that thing goes off. He feels a need to broadcast it for the neighborhood. The church members love it, but they do not live across the street and do not have to live with it every single day.

I asked Ed Reyes to change the noise code, Chapter 11, Article 5, Section 115.02b but he said, "No, I will do nothing." And that is what he has done, nothing. So, I am stuck hearing these annoying bullhorns all day.

Please, please help me, Stop The Bullhorns!!

You have GOT to meet this loon, in person, MS. She is UNbelievable, obsessed, and disruptive of every meeting in that community.

A major shrew, with dubious sanity.

(It's not that loud; the local ice cream trucks make a bigger racket.)

If a dog barks once in the City of LA and a neighbor complains, that dog must leave the City, be put indoors or be forced to use a bark collar. There is no maximum sound level for barking dogs. I personally don't think it's fair but it's the law. It's in the municipal code under Public Safety. Now LA County has a maximum noise level in decibels for anything be it a dog, chicken... I think the City needs to update those noise related laws and use a decibel level. In the meantime maybe you can shimmy up that pole and disconnect those speakers.

Update! Father Renee sent me a letter saying he lowered the volume of the bells. Is he kidding? What decibel reader is he looking at? What was he drinking? Either he was dreaming at the time or he doesn't know how to work that ding, dong thing that I call his community clock. Yes, I am disruptive trying to get that amplied sound system stopped or turned down. I pay taxes. I deserve my peace and quiet. I guess some do not think peace and quiet are worth fighting for.

But keep whatever ISM you live by in your own home. Do not force it into other people's homes like mine. I do not want your noise from your religion like Divine Saviour Catholic Church's tape recorded bells and music. Put it within your 4 walls. You have no right to blast it into my home. No church noise!! No church amplified sound systems!! No church bullhorns!! No forced religion into ones home!!

The noise law must change so churches are NOT "exempt" from the law.

No one is above the law. See California Penal Code 415 and LA Municipal Code Chapter 9.
