The Mayor's Filipino Faux Pas

On Saturday, the Mayor hosted one of his "Day of Service" events at Los Angeles City College. The scheduled guests included LA Laker Jordan Farmer, Slash of Guns & Roses, and actress Gina Rivera.

Also in attendance was a group of Filipino-American Veterans who had come to be recognized for their heroic efforts in several U.S. Wars.
They had donned their old uniforms and were anticipating a group photo with the Mayor, even bringing along members of the Filipino press to cover the story for publication back in the homeland.

Our sources are reporting that they never got that photo, and wound up leaving the campus very disappointed. "It was sad and disturbing, you could see how excited they were, and how quickly that changed", said one attendee.

And just why couldn't the Mayor take a moment to pose with this honorable group?
Sources say that the Mayor was having too much fun emceeing the festivities, schmoozing with the celebs, and, as you'll see below, dancing with the stars....

In all fairness, the Mayor did give the veterans a shout out from the stage, but this group had come expecting a photo for their archives, and to share with family and friends.

Ok sorry but men as heavy as Antonio should not wear their shirts tucked into their jeans. It makes them look heavier. Sure looks like he's gain a ton of weight.

And then they also often suffer the added indignity of seeing "Filipino" spelled with a "P-H-."

Villaraigosa didn't pose with the men because he's not attracted to their daughters.

That's the only way he'd pose.

The more common spelling seems to be with an "F", so I will change it, and thanks.

You go Antonio. I think he looks like he's having fun. Can't you just leave him alone? I do feel bad for the Philipino's (Filipino's?) who so badly wanted a picture with him. Someone from his staff should have been on that. Whoever his handler was that day should be disciplined.

Zuma Dogg you really need to get a job instead of hanging out at Filipino events to get free food and bash the mayor. This is a really poor blog you have written!

His handler should have known better that that. He/she should have put mini-skirts on these veterans and Tony would have been there in a second.

Ugh! Yuck!

Villar is getting too old and too fat to start acting like a Ricky Martin wannabee!

This guy is just having too much fun on our dime...as he has said on many occaions: "I just feel like a kid in a candy store"! Problem is...he just bought the candy store!

Why do Villar and Schwarzenegger always keep saying..."I'm having a great time!"??? If you ask either one of them why the city and state is going down the tubes...their standard replay is always..."I don't know, but I'm having a great time!" It's their mantra!

Let's end their 'good times' and kick their asses out of office ASAP!

Joe Mailhandler should stay on his own blog and stck to writing about golf and lobsters, where he and his good buddy Don Quackers can share days gone by.

Why do Mayor Sam's previous bloggers keep coming back here? Don't they have their own blog, where their "thousands" of readers can share a story and bowl of menudo?

I just caught this. Did the headline actually originally read, "Philipino?" LOL. For us Filipino folks, whenever we see it spelled that way, it usually means the person writing doesn't know shit about Filipino people.

Besides, "Filipino Faux Pas" makes for better alliteration, no?

Uhmm...question:

Did the Mayor's office know the Vets wanted their photo taken? Odds are that the mayor's office was unaware of the request. And either way, blaming Antonio for not knowing about the picture is stupidity at its finest.

Orale Mayor Sam's blog racist don't know anything about the Philipino culture and it's people.

When I was a kid growing up in Los Angeles, my best friend was a Philipino kid, we called him "Chino", I also had a Japanese friend we called him "Chino", and my other good friend was Vietnamese we called him "Chino".

My abuelita always taught me to learn about other cultures and don't descriminate against the "Chinos", you people can learn alot from me and my abuelita.

If anybody wants to know about Filipino Town in L.A., let me know I can comment about it, by the way my abuelito built most of the buildings in the area.

The pinche gavachos would not rent to the Chinos so they moved into the are around Temple and Alvarado, and established Filipino Town.

"Stupidity at it's finest" - a one phrase summation of Antonio's regime.

What is stupid is the belief that these individuals DID NOT want to take a picture with the mayor. Antonio and his staff should have assumed that this was their wishes, afterall, the protocol established by this administration has never been to turn down a photo op.

Next time have the Filipinos bring that Channel 4 Filipno weather lady, Antonio would take the picture - and then some.
