Gavin's In!

Oh great. Gavin's in, Antonio's cooked. At least if AV went to Sacramento, he wouldn't be here.
Open speculation for the masses!

I'm no fan of Newsom. He cost the State millions with his sudden idea to begin allowing gay marriage in San Francisco.

Millions of dollars later...we ended up with Prop 8 being approved by the voters.

Another irresponsible liberal in charge?

No, thank you.

He did the right thing Phil,

Phil, an irresponsible liberal in office would be 1000 times better than anything your gene pool infected

You guys rag on Phil like he's stupid or something but you haven't seen him speak or read his writing. The guy is articulate, educated and knows of what he speaks. He may soft spoken or really look and have mannerisms that make him appear far younger than he is but for Christ sake people is your life that empty?

Sorry Higby,

There's a difference between being educated and having common sense.

A lot of times Phil comes off sounding either hopelessly naive and/or having no basic common sense.

There's no shortage of educated idiots out there and Phil seems to be a part of their number.

Joe, Phil is not stupid and if he is a knee-jerk against Liberal its no worse and not nearly as bad as the knee jerk "blame conservatives" types you have on HuffPo, Daily Kos, etc.

As you know I have a significant concern with most liberal policies. Liberal politicians and their programs are at the root of many issues (however that being said there are conservative policies I take issue with and that have caused major problems such as much of what Bush did). However I've been fair and try to not knee jerk.

Witness my battle with winguts over at Twitter over Obama's birth certificate. That's a stupid issue for conservatives to pursue as is gay marriage.

If the Republicans asked me and I guess they are not I would say "tax cuts - deficits - focus!!"

Why don't you get a clue!!

Liberals have ruined this state. They run the legislature, the governship (since Arnold went leftward), the public schools, the major cities, etc.

**taxes are higher than all states except NY
**middle class families are struggling to make ends meet
**businesses are leaving en masse to Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico
**state spending is out of control
**small business is over-regulated and constantly vulnerable to lawsuits

At least when this was a 2-party state, the sides balanced each other out.

Now, the far left is in charge, and they don't care if this state goes bankrupt, and long as their rich Hollywood friends can stay here.

By the way I was able to refute Phil's praise of wingnut Alan Keyes without calling Phil an idiot.

I won't name names but there are some folks out there who are liberals who are just as naive-appearing and idealistic as Phil that some of you think are brilliant. I might too but I don't base it on their political views.

I remember being part of the Walter Mondale campaign and I just don't remember us being as vicious towards Reagan and the Republicans as some liberals are nowadays. I was a Clinton supporter and appalled by the vitriol against him but its still not as bad as what you read on these blogs.

The country has gotten out of hand.

We don't have to hate people because we don't agree with them.

I don't agree with Obama but you will see me defending where I think he's right or at least where criticism is unfair.

I'm dedicated to fighting the hate on all sides.

What a quandry for a liberal like me who likes Newsom, Brown and Villaraigosa!

Any one of them is okay in my book and whichever of them win in the primary, I'll work their campaign.

Of course, since Villaraigosa is my mayor, I would tend to want a governor who knows who I am. I guess that would be preferable since I think they're all capable of being a great governor.

I won't be predicting a Brown win until we know everything that is going to be on the ballot so that we can judge who will be coming out to vote, even though I will admit that his chances seem very high.

Well, nice hit on AV about the school takeover.

San Francisco is the greenest city in CA.

AV is the greenest Mayor that LA has ever had.

Hmm, I am very pro-environment and I am straight, but very pro-gays being allowed to marry.

So far, both of them are looking good to me.

It amazes me how little grace we seem to have anymore for those with whom we disagree. It used to be not very many years ago, that political debate was just that- an inspired exchange of differing ideas, by individuals whose spirit for disagreement was only exceeded by their politeness toward each other when the yelling stopped.

Now- we have blowholes on the left and blowholes on the right- in government, on cable TV, on blogs, and on talk radio- essentially calling everyone they disagree with A-Holes, idiots and/or traitors to their country. The only bright spot really, is the complete assurance we get from these well-informed folks (on both sides), that they have all the answers. Having all the answers seems to me, to be an incredible burden to carry with you all the time. Does anything come as a surprise to one who has all the answers? Isn't everything boring to one who has all the answers?

What's the solution here- to wake up every single morning of every single day, inventing new ways to vehemently insult those with whom we disagree? If your answer is "yes," then I guess that makes folks like Ed Schultz, Rush Limbaugh, Bill Press, Sean Hannity, Randi Rhodes, Ann Coulter, and the like... among the smartest people around.

Not to mention the endless string of Anonymous bloggers in the world.

C'mon... that sounds like a helluva lotta work to me- not to mention about as entertaining as white noise.

Instead- hug the nearest idiot every day... you'll feel better... and so will they. Or, maybe just give 'em one sincere smile. Or if you can't stomach either one of those ideas- maybe when the disagreements begin, refer to 'em as a goofball, instead of an idiot or an A-Hole.

If we could accomplish that- World Peace is right around the corner.

Antonio Villaraigosa will not be the next Governor of California for no other reason than the Office of the President of the United States will be pulling on the other side of that tug-o-war rope. Even if pulling means pushing for someone else or everyone else even in the primaries.

And did you see the front page of the Los Angeles Times on April 21, 2009? Nice introduction to this story that may end up wiping away a good portion of the corruption at the state and local level.

Jerry Brown for Mayor of Oakland in 2002
Jerry Brown for Attorney General in 2006
Jerry Brown for Governor in 2010

See a pattern ....

The only office the guy has lost was President and U.S. Senate ... and he might have beaten out Jimmy Carter in 1976 if he jumped in the race a little earlier. If it stays in the state, he wins and wins big!!

Michael,

You are discounting all of the new young voters that Obama brought in and got registered to vote.

They are mostly all pro-gay and usually pretty liberal. To them they wonder, Jerry Who?

They'll look at it as a Northern CA vs Southern CA fight.

I think Antonio would cook Gavin without too much trouble.Rarely is Solomon wrong, but this one is wrong. Antonio is so out of political favor he's not even going to run. It's Newsom v. Brown and that's it. And Brown in a cakewalk.

Antonio just raised $3 million dollars to barely beat a bunch of unelected officials, no offense Phil. The well is dry. Ace baited him into opening that SF office so that Ace could get back home. That d.b. will spend the next two weeks convincing Tony that it's in Tony's best interest to finish some job or another in LA.

Joseph Mailander,

I disagree!

Villaraigosa has a Latino surname, and that is probably good for about 35% of the Democratic vote right there.

Many SoCal residents will vote for him just like they re-elected him Mayor.

Not excited about it, and they don't think much of him, but they have no strong reason to vote for anyone else.

Antonio knows if he can get past Brown and Newsom, it is a breeze for him. Garamendi will help splinter the NoCal vote.

Republican side is disorganized with Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner running with tons of personal money, but no real love for them in the State.

Jerry Brown has history and name ID. Due to this he won't have to raise as much noney to get his message out. Newsom probably has lowest name ID of those running. Villaraigosa runs because he has nothing to lose. If he doesn't run now he has no platofrm to run from in 8 years assuming Democrat wins two terms.
Villaraigosa most vulnerable on issues used in tv ads eg stewardship of city of LA, budget shortfalls half billion each of next two years, guge payouts in litgation where cuty is defendant, no vision for city, no follow through. Opponents don't even have to touch infidelity because internet and talk radio will. Btown will outraise all opponents, buy most TV and have best ground operatiion Garamendi out for shot at Tauscher House seat. Brown ONLY candidate with law enforcement credentials. Anybody over fifty who is Dempcratic voter has more postiives about Pat and Jerry Brown than negatives. Villaraigosa' negatives very high. Newsom very unkown and that's ftal with his negatives-rooted in his own infidelity. Norwn carrie East Bay and outscores Bewsom in San Francisco, Brown has strong ties to Los Angeles. Served on Community College Board, lived in Laurel Canyonptactive law in Los Angeles. DIFI not getting in race, Brown wins African American vote, and probably Jewish vote.Brown best chance to win of all three (assuming no other jump in) to beat Campbell, Whitman or Poizner.
