Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Wednesday

The grown-ups are now officially in charge in CD2.  Councilman Paul Krekorian was sworn in Tuesday.

In light of the attempted Christmas Day underwear bombing LAX has announced plans to step up security.  The airport says it will hire more police officers and buy more full body scanners.  Mayor Villaraigosa told reporters at a presser "If people know they can fly into the safest airport in the United States of America, they're going to want to come here."

The LA Times reported that part of the reason behind the Mayor pushing out former CRA head Cecilia Estolano was her refusal to comply with the Mayor's order to move the agency to less pricy digs.  However not that Estolano is gone a move is underfoot by the property's owner to keep the agency there and, according to CurbedLA, the claim is they would actually save money.  Stay tuned.

Yet another water main break. This time, Tuesday at about 1:00 a.m. in Wilmington, creating a massive flood on North Alameda Street.

Bloggers at Griffith Park Wayist and Village to Village are calling for Neighborhood Council leaders to boycott the Mayor's Budget  Survey.  The feeling is that the survey is a meaningless sham and an opportunity for the Mayor to feign participation and have an out to throw stakeholders under the bus when things get bad.  I will join this call as last year when I took the survey I found it lacking in many ways and the only way to give input was to add comments in the margin.  Spread the word - no survey.

Villaraigosa's firing of Cecilia Estolano is another major mistake on his scorecard. Not that anyone in the City of LA cares since the voters keep electing him to whatever post he decides he wants. Ms. Estolano gave credibility to City Administration -- and now there is none at all.

Hey Higby,

Tell Joe B. that a handful of veteran Democrats are resigning this morning because they were gonna get their ass kicked in 2010 elections.

Chris Dodd. QUITTING
Ritter. QUITTING.
Dorgin. QUITTING.

Looks like it took LESS THAN A YEAR for the Dems to blow a SUPER MAJORITY.

Now if only we can get rid of Villaraigosa (who Higby endorsed) and the rest of City Council. At least Krekorian has YET to let us down.

Oh yeah, and that guy named O'Bama? Looks like he'll be a one-term guy, provided that stupid Sara Palin doesn't blow it for the Republicans or whatever new party might surface.

Cecilia got the shoebox not for failure to move the CRA, but for finding a way to pay the State before the City.

To the best of our knowledge, Paul hasn't been officially sworn in. The election was certified yesterday, that is all.

That does make it official, with the exception of the swearing in.

Uuuuugh Parke, can you uuugh get Antonio some uuuuuugh speech lessons.

When half your comments are drowned out by that dreadful uuuuuuuugh sound, no one wants to hear the rest.

Reminds me of Richard Alatorre, but at least Richard was coked out half the time.

Quite honestly, not only should we be boycotting the Mayor's Budget Survey, but we should be meeting-developing-caucusing - whether it be via neighborhood councils, community groups, or whole communities - and creating our own budget priorities: the budget priorities of the very people who live here.

If the Reps are stupid enough to nominate Palin, it would guarantee a big Obama victory. She can repeat one liners but is totally lacking in substance. And since the election she has done nothing to educate herself or make meaningful proposals.

Her biggest achievement wasn't even of her own doing .... it was getting picked to run for VP.

She makes George Bush look like a Rhodes Scholar.

Don't be sure about Palin. She can whip up enough of the crowds in the hinterlands and those people vote.

If Nobama continues to fail to deliver all the young people, lefties and black folk who bothered to vote this time because he said "Yes We Can" are going to say "No He Didn't." If things are even worse Hilary will run against him.

Look, if you think you can do a better job with the raw material, then you try it, buster!

It's not like it's that easy to deliver 4.0 concepts and political spin through a 1.4 GPA intellect.

You might as well try running Windows 7 on an original Pentium processor. There are just always going to be some delays, if it even moves along at all.

Shoot, we're doing the best we can, but it's a delicate balancing act -- because every time we try to reboot him and clear his cache, (to maybe speed things up a bit?), then HE thinks its a "fresh start" to run for somebody's else's job.

(Extreme raspberries and "get-a-lifes" to the geek who tries to explain why you could never run "7" on a Pentium -- because, IT'S A BLEEDIN' SIMILE!)

I believe I read somewhere that Paul was officially sworn in by the City Clerk during the meeting.

His "cermonial" swearing in is this Sunday at Van Nuys City Hall.

That's what I read, anyway.

I said it before, and I'm coming back within the next couple months to gloat, guaranteed . . .

Mark this down as a WINTER 2010 prediction, because by the time spring is here, Higby and the other Krekorian groupies on this blog will be calling Krekorian names and hating his guts, and saying he "betrayed us" and is just another "clown" - yada, yada. It ALWAYS happens here.

And part of the reason is, you guys just don't understand political-speak. What they say to get you to VOTE for them is NOT what they ever actually INTEND to do, or even CAN do once in office.

They don't even have people with them who keep track, and remind them later about how they were going to be "different" from the status quo - because they know they can't be, and really don't want to be.

By the time they make their first meetings as council committee members, they've become best "buddies" with the official keepers of the status quo, and they've been schooled on how important it is to maintain that very same status quo that assures that their back will also get scratched by the rest of the team.

Councilmembers who rock the boat for the others get ONE term, tops, and they accomplish little or nothing during it.

I said it here, Jan. 6, 2010, and I'll be back, with a copy of this, and just LAUGH, laugh, laugh.

The standard practice is for the Councilmember to be sworn in by the Clerk privately as soon as the election is certified. Then the ceremonial swearing in can be any time afterwards.

This is an outright LIE and any resident will tell you. THere have been tons of homicides the media hasn't even reported. Every area in Los Angeles including the rich areas have had murders and dumb ass Beck and MAyor want to lie to say crime is down. Ask any patrol officer and they will tell you the truth. Violence in Los ANgeles is up. There are already over 10 murders this year and we're only in 2nd week of January.

If Tony wants to at least feign some level of credibility, he needs to think about what he is saying so that it makes sense to people beyond his staff-
"If people know they can fly into the safest airport in the United States of America, they're going to want to come here."

And then today you have TSA employees on videotape taking drugs in the news. Larry Fetters, a federal security head, and Dave Goldstein joust over the impact of this with Fetters coming out short on common sense.
http://cbs2.com/goldstein/caught.on.tape.2.1407508.html

So the Mayor's premise of the safest airport in the U.S. is not quite what he makes it out to be, but that's what happens when silly statements continue to be produced by Tony V.

What he SHOULD be working on is his stuttering and stammering that is probably connected with the degree of untruths and fabrications he spouts. Possibly moving things down a few notches to stay within levels of, maybe not honesty, but at least plausibility, might help him. All that verbal commotion in the delivery may be his body's response to lying all these years. I remember when he used to have truthful statements among his utterings and there were not all the problems present that you hear now when he speaks.

He's still shifty and in no way trustworthy (not any news) but it's like his ability to smooth-talk his way out of a jam is completely beyond his reach.

Observing it all in L.A. as b.k. looks to be more likely an upcoming reality.

No?

Why the hell do we need more Airport cops? They already have 350 something cops bumpin into each other there. Thats more than all but 2 or 3 L.A. County munipal police departments.

Why not hire more General Services Police to patrol the parks? Or why not more LAPD officers? Both are way understaffed!

LAX has Airport PD, TSA (whatever), LAPD, DEA, Customs, LA Sheriff (bomb dogs and special undercover guys), FBI, Air Marshals, and whoever else wants to be on TMZ escorting some idiot out of a Terminal.

Come on Tony, spend the money you dont have elsewhere and stop knee jerking to an isolated incident in Detroit. . .
