Saturday Hotsheet

We're just going to sell propane and propane accessories.

Never doubt the power of well organized citizen activism when going up against brain dead bureaucrats when it comes to land use decisions. Residents in Sunland-Tujunga successfully fought off an industrial propane refilling station in their community with the help of Councilmember Paul Krekorian. Other communities are not as lucky to be as organized nor to have as decent a Councilmember as Krekorian when a koo koo for Cocoa Puffs planner such as Milena Zasadzien see no problem with such a facility in a retail zone. "It may not be an ideal retail use such as a cafe or restaurant, but it is still a retail site," Zasadzien told the LA Weekly.

In light of the City of Bell salary outrage, Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel has posted all City of Los Angles employee salaries online. The problem however, notes Walter Moore, is that the list omits names, the pay for part time employees or consultants and fails to list the perks electeds like Greuel get such as free cars, per diems, travel, etc. However, a private website LASalaries.com does list the names to be transparent. All of that said the DWP does not list salaries and neither Greuel nor LASalaries.com can get to it.

When the City Council does something right they deserve props. The Council voted Friday that new businesses in LA can forgo City taxes for their first three years. More of this common sense tax reform is needed in LA, which for years has driven businesses to more business friendly cities like Burbank, Santa Clarita and even Santa Monica, to make LA more competitive. Still the Clowncil's resident Socialist, Paul "Cat Whisperer" Koretz who expressed skepticism over the plan.

Cardinal Roger Mahony is wrong for his sanctuary city open borders politics. He was wrong covering up pedophile priests in the Catholic Church. Now he is wrong once again opposing the court decision overturning Proposition H8 and allowing marriage equality for all.

Councilman Tom LaBonge has found yet another silly issue to go after. He is fighting that scourge of LA known as the tour bus.

Great job community members who worked on the appeal! It's obvious that Milena Zasadzien and Bob Duenas clearly don't understand the Foothill Boulevard Specific Plan. They certainly appeared to have their own agenda and not what's best for the community in mind. The Planning Commission did the best possible job under the circumstances. Paul Krekorian gave a very poignant speech and did an outstanding job supporting the community.

Yes, the applicant "flat out" told/wrote and emphasized to City Planning that they expect this to be a filling station for "industrial" use. What is wrong with these planners and why can't they "just say no!" ? It is as if City Planning found every opportunity to go against the community and not respect the people who live here.

Higby,

I'm all for showing the good things, rare as they are, that the electeds do. And this thing by Krekorian seems to be one.

But I'm concerned, since you were a big backer of Paul's, that you didn't address his recent "switcheroo" that resulted in a second vote and a citizenry bad outcome.

I hate to say it, but Phil wrote about this, and FOR ONCE, did it accurately.

Why didn't you write about it?

By the way, I"m glad you're back. Can you tell us if you're okay now? That moron homeless guy tweeted about it several times and called you some perjorative things. His level of jealousy and bitterness know no ends.

Not all communities are as organized as ST. Most will get f----d under the new Director LoGrande, the developer's man, and the incompetent planners left in the department.

Put that damn propane tank in Lisa Sarkin's Studio City neighborhood, and stick all the high-rise density too. Give her more opportunities to worship her hero, Michael Logrande.

Sunland-Tujunga is probably the best organized community in the City. They have shown some real grit by taking on and defeating Home Depot and many other terrible developments.
I hope they can finally start getting the developments & businesses they want instead of being treated like a dumping ground by City Planning.

2:52, the problem is not new planners like Milena Zasadzien, who have to follow the dictates of her boss, in this case, a retarded planner like Bob Duenas, only made worse by a dumb but wiley for his own interests, Director. Don't lay blame at the lowly staff who are sacrificed by these management dumb asses. The source of the problem is always the Planning Director, who under the con artist Gail Goldberg suffered enough. Multiply that and you have Michael LoGrande.

It's Time that the City of Los Angeles benefit from such leadership as CD 2 enjoys.

No other councilperson would have gone out to a Area Planning Commission to speak, and do so well as Krekorian did. If as 1 of 15 he has been as good as he has, just dream of what he could do if he was THE man!

Paul Krekorian For Mayor 2012!!!

This is the start of the Community Drafting its choice for Mayor! We need someone who will stand up for the NC's and the Community with a track record, and stands a chance of winning. Krekorian is that person!
