Late Afternoon Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Monday

Can we lead UTLA's AJ Duffy away one last time?

Great afternoon to all including LAUSD School Board Candidates Jesus Escandon and John Fernandez who faced the wrath of UTLA Henchman AJ "Puff" Duffy, and now are the latest poster child's highlighting the dysfunction state of affairs, within LAUSD biggest union of public indoctrinators/educators.

From the outside, looking in, one gathers the the pressure to maintain some semblance of influence within LAUSD, is causing the likes of Duffy, to purge UTLA supported candidates, who's background may bring defeat in the upcoming March 2011 Elections.

LAUSD District 7 Candidate Jesus Escandon was striped of his UTLA endorsement after the discovery of a 1997 DUI Conviction and arrest for street fighting. We should note that Escandon was a candidate in 2007 for the same seat and nothing was revealed at that time.

LAUSD District 5 Candidate John Fernandez is vowing to fight Duffy's efforts to purge him. Fernandez has been straight forward in discussing his past issues but has never been convicted of a crime. Duffy stated that serious issues pertaining to Fernandez veracity and integrity were the cause for withdrawing the endorsement. But then if Duffy had any integrity, he would admit that his leftist band of indoctrinators and himself, deserve the big share of the blame for LAUSD's current state of being.

More News after the Bloggin Leap:
** Mayor Antonio Villar is collecting now for future political favors, as the likes of AEG pony up $100,000 to back the Mayor's slate of candidates for LAUSD School Board.

** The Mayor's "Comadre" Los Angeles County Labor Federation Leader Maria Elena Durazo and her unionists, have deposited the first $20,000 in their bid to defeat Tenth District City Councilman Bernard Parks.

** The Clean Sweepers are on the ground within CD 4 as Ron Kaye muses why Councilman Tom LaBonge must not bombast his way for four more years.

** California Governor Moonbeam II cites Egypt as why we need to place his tax increases on the June Ballot.

Your thoughts................

I like ya, Red Spot, but your goose is cooked when it comes to the vote. I hate Huizar just as much as you do, but you need to see with clarity that Rudy will get no more than 12% of the vote. You gotta regain control of yourself or you'll end up in the silly room at the psych hospital, dude. Find your next subject. Otherwise you gonna end up lookin like a foo', foo'

I thought YOU would be happy that Puffy Duffy forced out a Drunk and Thief for trying to lead our children. Are you going to support them? What's next hating Rudy or outing Huizar?

This is the first thing Puffy Duffy has done that i at least half way agree with.

Are you secretly talking to Mayor Tony thats why you are hating Puffy

So if UTLA endorses a candidate, it's union corruption. If they don't, it's "purging."

Gotta love this blog. Always predicting some small potato is going to win, always wrong. It is going to take an Egyptian style revolution to fix this city, and let's face it, the voters just don't care enough to give a damn.

"Now comes the kicker. Will the UTLA endorse Luise Puglese tonight? Luise is an agreeable guy personally, but he’s also a hard-core unionist. Is it by association only that Puglese thinks he's above the law? We recently learned that Puglese dodged on $11,000 in student loans (amount calculated by the court in 2002), claiming that the statute of limitations had run out (not true)."

Perhaps since only 47% of the LAUSD students graduate from HS and a smaller % go to college we should only pay the teachers 47% of their current salaries. It would seem like pay and performance should be linked. Duffy, the UTLA, SEIU, D'Arcy need to go like Mubarak. We are fed up with mismanagement, dare I say corruption, and paying for something we don't get.

Actually I have to say for once Puffy showed some judgment and balls to risk losing these elections and dropping these losers.

As someone who was inside, I can tell you that as soon as these facts came back from the internal background check, the leadership moved to terminate the relationship with these two clowns.

Escandon's conviction wasn't just a DUI, it was a felony DUI. If a teacher commits a felony he or she is done, you get your credential ripped by the state which may explain why he left the district and went to work for CTA.

For Fernandez, the man flat out lied. He didn't bother to let us know about any of this even though he was given ample opportunity to do so. Thank God for Chris Arrellano who taught us to do these checks in house.

Ethics do matter, being a role model does matter, to be a leader you must have ethics and be a role model, how can either of these men do the job.
