Smith Is Back In

After some strong arm tactics by Mitchell Englander threatened to boot him from the race, CD12 candidate Brad Smith is now back in the race.

Geat!!! Never allow a bad person to keep you from doing what you know to be right. There was a negative Opinion Piece on Little Mitch's deceit to the public

Daily News editorial: Just because the law allows artfulness on the ballot, that doesn't mean it's right
For the past seven and a half years, Mitch Englander has reported for work most days at Los Angeles City Hall, where he is chief of staff for Councilman Greig Smith.

It's a demanding job, with long hours and high pressure to meet constituent needs. That's why he's paid $150,000 a year. So it was surprising to see Englander's occupation listed on the March 8 ballot as "Policeman/Councilmember Deputy."

Englander is running to replace his boss as councilman for the 12th District, which stretches from Chatsworth to Granada Hills. But instead of listing his job in the council office as his primary occupation, Englander chose to emphasize his volunteer work as a reserve police officer - a gig that takes 16 hours or more a month.

There is nothing illegal about Englander's self-identification, or even incorrect. The city requires candidates to list their principal profession, vocation or occupation. But there's something a little sleazy about the extent to which candidates play word games with ballot titles in order to capture barely informed voters.

Higby, I beg you on one knee. Please fire the other "contributor". Mayor Sam would rock if you were the only writer.

Better get kneepads. This blog has to function on multiple writers. Always has. One blogger alone equals boring!

Did he give a reason for dropping out in the first place?

Does he have a plan to win?

I like Brad but this whole thing tells me he is not ready for the major leagues yet.

You can't complain about Mitch's designation as a policeman unless you're willing to criticize other candidates for listing their Neighborhood Council. Both are volunteer positions.

Agree 5:56, but where was the Daily News and especially the Slimes when the fake "people's lawyer" now more aptly known as "Carmen the Clown," listed HIS occupation as "environmental attorney" -to mislead the same "barely informed voters?"

Who these papers - who deserve their own name "sleazy" - connived to further misinform.

When in fact Carmen the Clown had spent his entire adult career except for a few early ones, defending rich and well-connected accused criminals (of environmental crimes, as well as rape and assault, violations vs. government codes etc.).

NOW all of a sudden they bring out their wrath over Englander? Who I'm not defending either, and if he tried to strong-arm another candidate, shame on him. If that's the case, he sounds like a man after the Clown's own heart: does he have his endorsement?
