Meet Councilman Jose Huizar, "DWP Ratepayer Crusader" (coughs galores)

Councilman Huizar voted "yes" on City Council President Eric Garcetti's amendment to strip enforcement and budget from the origionally proposed "Rate Payer Advocate" via Ron Kaye

Back page of Councilman Huizar's DWP Crusader Mailer.

Martinez Campaign DWP retort.

While some talk peace in the CD 14 Campaign, we here at Mayor Sam continue to fact check the campaign propaganda being sent to the mailboxes by Team Huizzy and the latest crafted by Parke Skelton, rivals his 80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES creation for now Mayor Antonio "Huizzy's Papi" Villaraigosa.

More after the bloggin leap.
For the fine citizens of CD 14, it must be reassuring to wake up on this beautiful morning and read that your esteem councilman is standing up to the likes of IBEW Strongman Brian D'Arcy and his Papi's appointees to The DWP Board of Commissioners. Less reassuring is knowing the true facts that your councilman was voting to support every rate increase that Papi requested.

The timing of this mailer is most interest in light of recent news linking Councilman Huizar to a on-going FBI investigation and the disastrous Michael Trujillo "Bullet to the head Email". Parke while initiating "peace talks" with the Rudy Martinez Campaign, still found quality embellishing time to mass mail his 2011 version of 80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES.

The truth on this mailer is that Councilman Huizar wants you to vote for the scale-down version of the proposed Rate Payer Advocate which meets with approval of IBEW's Brian D'Arcy who never met a pay raise or rate increase that he din't like.

BTW, the mailers are flying, so much for Parke's efforts to redirect attention.

Your Thoughts..............

Scott Johnson in CD 14

[For those not yet versed in "Red Spot-ese" - a language where the "spin" is built in - let's translate].

When HE says:

"...recent news linking Councilman Huizar to a on-going FBI investigation...

What that REALLY means in honest terms is:

"My daddy Rudy Rich told the Times he was asked questions about a business deal he had with Huizar where the payment was in dispute."

And the crooked path you have to take to get from one to the other includes these leaps of illogic:

NEWS = leaked from the opponent

LINKING = the same opponent "linked" him (while still a GLENDALE REPUBLICAN - BTW).

ON-GOING = (...just made that up - because no one anywhere has said it is "ongoing" even if it ever did exist - and Huizar says it didn't exist in the first place).

FBI = FBI (one right, so far)

INVESTIGATION = some questions asked last year, quite possibly as a result of his opponent contacting the FBI from his HOME IN GLENDALE, purely for political gain.

Scott, in order to "continue" to do something, you first have to 1) start; and 2) (in this case, especially), understand the difference between a "fact" and your opinion/interpretation.

In this case, it's hardly worth your efforts to try.

Hmmm...

Per you, "Latinos = ignorant masses"?

Not sure I'd want to go with that characterization in a district where the majority of constituents ARE Latino, but you go with that if it makes you feel better about yourself in some way.

(OH, and also in a race where the incumbent earned a doctorate from UCLA and his opponent has a high school diploma).

But... OKAY.

SO, now that there's supposed to be this "peace" between the incumbent and the challenger in CD14, shouldn't that also mean that Rudy's YouTube attacks like that should also be removed?

Not that anybody's really looking at them much - judging from the miniscule number of "plays" - but still, they definitely go against the "pledge" he said he's already on board with.

Peace is peace, right?

Or is it the kind of "peace" that means, I'll keep it up until YOU sign.

Another HIT against HUIZAR..

L.A. City Council Spends Thousands of Your Money on Top Restaurants, Clubs, Hotels (Even for a 'Personal Fiesta')
Eastside Councilman Jose Huizar spent $2,845 for 13 visits to Pacific Dining Car, and $259 for a night at Elevate Lounge, a 21st-floor, DJ-driven club downtown.
In all La Opinion counts up $ 850,000 in spending by City Council members for hotels, trips and restaurants in the last decade.
The cash comes from council members' "discretionary funds," which allow them to spend lots of cash pretty much however they like.

More likely, he has NO record of any kind of involvement - let alone ACCOMPLISHMENT - with the district and community, like our boy Rudy Rich... the carpet-bagging, grave-robbing, investigation-impeding Glendale Republican who never set foot in a community meeting in District 14 before he decided to run the seat mid-2010.

That goes way beyond NOT having a "track" record. That's not even realizing where the TRACK is, or what you do once you get to it.

In about 6 more months, he'll actually qualify as a political neophyte.

Right now he's just a bored rich guy going through a midlife crisis and looking for some new toy to play with - in this case, a district of nearly 300,000 people.

Having watched this race unfold over a number of months, there's absolutely no question that Martinez started off the mudslinging, and long before they were ever in a room together at community forums.

In the early weeks, the only mailers I got from Huizar were all just "pro" ME, with his list of supporters and accomplishments.

Rudy, not having either -supporters, or accomplishments (other than making himself rich) - sent a few with his life story, but then launched right into pure mud - unrelated to any issues in the district.

Yeah, I realize that sounds like "he hit me first" - but it speaks to your point. Candidates who can't say much good about their experience (or need to hide their lack of it) HAVE to start the mudslinging early - and RUDY DID.

Yeah, I was waiting for some factually-challenger Huizar-hater to post that one, and "pretend" it's really about him, and not most of the other CMs.

If you actually bothered to READ the La Opinion story (that the WEAKLY pulled selectively from- because they also seem to have a Huizar hair up their bums), even on a Google translation, it's pretty clear most other City councilmembers - and the Mayor - spent a whole lot more (4 of them - Reyes, Hahn, Cardenas and Smith - accounted for more than half the total $$ for the whole 15).

While Huizar seems to like that one restaurant for the occasional staff, etc, meeting, his spending wasn't anywhere near that "Fab Four's" wining and dining.

And really, 13 times in SIX YEARS? The company I work for spends more than that year on our stupid monthly "birthday" celebrations that everyone hates anyway.

But HERE of COURSE, on the wildly unbalanced Hate-Huizar-Network, he's public enemy #1, so... f*ck the truth, right?

Since he's running on a platform of "creating jobs" - it would be nice to know if the ones he has created as an entrepreneur are just the same kind of low-wage burger flipping gigs that really don't help a local economy, and end up eventually dumping many of its participants back on unemployment of welfare - in the end.

OMG how sad. The LA Weekly and LA OPinion post a story about the abuses of tax payer money and the Huizar camp hates it. They blame everyone else except their council person. This thread is about Huizar not the other council members. The lack of prudence by Huizar shows he doesn't care how he spends the tax payers hard earned money. That's the issue. OF course he doesn't spend the money in his own district with all the nice inexpensive restaurants he has to go do Pacific Dinning Car with his staffers. There are very few unionized restaraunts in L.A.- this is not San Francisco. This is the legacy of Maria Elena Durazo and her 20+ years at H.E.R.E. Local 11. The one restaraunt that is union is La Golondrina on Olvera Street but Huizar and Alatorre choose to be patrons of El Paseo, Andy Camacho's restaraunt across the street that has never been union.

Don't get high and mighty on this union bit - Villar, Huizar, Nunez, etc,.. certainly don't practice what they preach.

Mayor, John Perez, and Huizar working together again..

Since the following article was written, John Perez has started the process to dissolve the City of Vernon. As the acting president of the LA Planning and Land Use Committee, Huizar sent the possible annexing of Vernon by the City of LA to full Council. No one else on the committee showed up that day....

Wind Power, Meet Power Struggle (Even Vernon is Involved)
Tuesday, September 15, 2009, by Dakota

Many, many years ago, Mayor Villaraigosa promised that 20% of the city's power would come from renewable sources by the year 2010. And the mayor's goal of cleaner and greener is part of the reason why the LA Times covers the struggle over Onyx Ranch, a 68,000-acre ranch in Kern County (near Bakersfield), and the site of a planned wind farm. The characters here: Ari Swiller, local entrepreneur and a former campaign manager for the Mayor; the DWP; a cattle-rancher family descended from Russian Jewish immigrants (now battling among themselves over the land); developer CIM; and the city of Vernon. We just are partial to stories that mention Vernon, but Hollywood, you may have your newest post-"Chinatown" screenplay. Here's the crux of the story:

"In the case of Onyx Ranch, the venture headed by [the mayor's pal Ari] Swiller beat the DWP to the land, bought it for $48 million and, before the transaction was completed, offered to sell less than half of it to the utility for $65 million.
H. David Nahai, the DWP's general manager, rejected the offer. Swiller's venture, a partnership between his and another firm, then sold the portion sought by Los Angeles for $42 million to the city of Vernon, a neighboring industrial community with its own electric utility. Since then, Los Angeles officials have been weighing whether to wage a potentially costly and lengthy legal battle against Vernon to gain ownership of the land, considered prime territory for towering turbines that would generate electricity from the winds that blow across the Tehachapi Mountains.

How long after getting several nasty, negative ones like this from Martinez, will the people in the know about the last few weeks start to wonder?

Do most people really know the difference between so-called "policy" and "personal" attacks, or are they just going to keep seeing Rudy Rich blasting away - supposedly while he's promised to play "nice."
